SCRATCH TESTER TR 101

The Ducom TR 101 – Scratch test is designed to evaluate scratch resistance of materials and to evaluate adhesive strength of coatings. It is a powerful tool to evaluate coating failures.

  • Hard surface of metals, ceramics and composites
  • Adhesion strength of coatings and coated parts like cutting tools
  • Electroplated semi-conductors, dentures and decorative coatings
The TR 101 consists of an indenter that is mounted on the z-axis of the tester. The sample to be tested is placed below on an x-axis stage. The indenter is pressed against the test sample with the desired force and is moved across its surface. User may choose to maintain a constant load across the scratch length, or to step or ramp the load. The traction force during the test is measured. A change in traction force may represent delamination of coating which may be investigated by the user.

The TR 101 test system has several upgrade options to facilitate research. While only an x-axis and z-axis movement is sufficient for quality control applications, an optional y-axis movement may be chosen for research applications where users may perform multiple parallel scratches on a single sample.

Users may further choose to upgrade to an integrated Image Acquisition System that automatically positions the camera at the scar for the user to capture the image as required and analyze the scratch. It is a powerful tool to analyze and report test results.

For applications where brittle coatings are being evaluated, the optional Acoustic Emission Sensor proves to be an indispensable feature. A state of the art acoustic sensor picks up acoustic signatures generated while the sample is under test. Using these signatures, users may identify crack initiations and may be able to determine the onset of failure even before a coating actually fails.

An optional low load head allows for the TR 101 test system to perform low load scratch tests.

The TR 101 Series comes with the WinDucom software for data acquisition and display of results.

Using the WinDucom Data Acquisition System, a PC acquires test data online and displays it in several ways. Graphs of individual tests can be printed. Results of different tests can be superimposed using the WinDucom CompariView feature for comparative viewing of results.Data can be exported to other software.
