PORTABLE AUTOMATED BALL INDENTER SC 07

The Ducom Portable Ball Indenter is designed as a tool to evaluate surface integrity of components using a non destructive indentation technique.

The Ducom Portable Automated Ball Indenter (PABI) is used as a non-destructive method for in-situ surface integrity assessment of inline service components. The system consists of a ball indenter that is loaded against a test sample and the resultant data is acquired and processed using a data acquisition and control software.

A loading and un-loading cycle of the ball against the sample generates a compressive stress on the material, representing its elastic-plastic behavior. The surface deformation due to compressive stress is plotted as a function of load. This stress-strain plot portrays the mechanical parameters like Yield Strength, Ultimate Tensile Strength, Strain Hardening Constant, Hardness and Fracture Toughness.
